MANSFIELD, MASS. (WPRI) – More than 20 people were taken to the hospital from a country music concert in Mansfield Saturday night, according to the police and fire chiefs.

Mansfield firefighters and EMS personnel dealt with 46 medical calls at the Keith Urban concert at the Xfinity Center, resulting in 22 people being taken to area hospitals, mostly for intoxication.

Police said they took more than 50 drunk people into protective custody and arrested several others.

Officials declared a mass-casualty incident at about 9 p.m. Saturday to deal with the large numbers of people, eventually enlisting help from Eaton, Foxboro, North Attleboro, Norton and Plainville to get enough ambulances to the venue.

In a press release, police and fire officials said a unified command structure put in place last year allowed them to deal with the number of patients effectively, despite the number being much higher than they had anticipated.
