SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- A motorcyclist sped away from police in Holyoke early Wednesday morning and the bike ended up abandoned in Springfield.
Lt. Larry Cournoyer of the Holyoke Police Department told 22News that an officer tried to pull the motorcyclist over for some sort of traffic infraction around 1 a.m., but the bike sped away so quickly it was difficult to follow. Holyoke police then put a call out to surrounding communities to keep an eye out for a speeding red motorcycle
West Springfield police spotted the bike going through their town, and pursued it until it got onto Interstate 91, where State Police spotted it before it got off the highway in the North End. The motorcycle ended up abandoned by the Mobil gas station on Main Street in Springfield.
Massachusetts State Police from the Springfield Barracks said they were called to help search the area for the rider, but they did not find anyone. The motorcycle was towed away, and police are still investigating.
