Brothers find body behind Waterbury home

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH)– A body was found by two brothers behind a house in Waterbury, Tuesday morning.

Around 10:00 a.m., Edwin Maldonado’s brother told him to get up and get outside.  His brother walked him behind the home, which is on private property, and right away the horrible smell gave him a good idea of what was there. The totally unexpected wake up call happened at Maldonado’s home on Denver Place, which is a neighborhood west of Route 8.

“My brother came over and there was a stench, so when he went to go see what the stench was. There was a body back there,” said Maldonado. “It was surreal.”

Curiosity made Edwin go take a look. The brothers immediately called 9-1-1.  Investigators told them the man’s body may have been there a few days. When asked what he thought about it being in his backyard, Maldonado said, “I don’t know. It’s kind of dark back there. It’s mind boggling.”

Edwin’s home and his brother’s business are on private property in the industrial area.  He says this is the last thing they expected.

“These are all trees over there. You can’t really tell, but it’s like a cliff.  But they’re still investigating. It could be a drug overdose, a fall, an accident,” said Maldonado. “Just rocks and power lines up there.”

Edwin says all was quiet during his first month living there.  He plans on getting additional lighting because it gets so dark outside his home at night. Waterbury Police aren’t making any comments as they are in the early stages of the investigation.
