Westfield scuba diver died off coast of Marblehead

Diver reported missing around 10:00 Tuesday morning

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WWLP) – Rescue crews off the coast of Marblehead, Mass. recovered the body of a scuba diver who had been reported missing since Tuesday morning.

The search for the diver started around 10:00 a.m. after the Marblehead Police Department received a distress call for a diver missing near Satan’s Rock behind Children’s Island.

State Trooper Reid Bagley told 22News that around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon the State Police Underwater Recovery Team found a diver who had drowned off the coast of Marblehead. The diver was found in about 60 feet of water.

The identity of the diver has not been released, but authorities did release that the diver is from Westfield and he is in his 50s.

State Trooper Reid Bagley said State Police can not provide any other information. The Essex County DA’s office is handling the case.
