SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Although Massachusetts’ unemployment rate has been down this year overall, last month the rates took a turn in the opposite direction.
According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, in Springfield, the unemployment rate went from 8.4 percent in May to 9.1 percent in June.
Springfield residents told 22News they’ve seen first hand how tough the market can be, even for those who have jobs. Nick Wedlicke said, “I live in this area, I know shopkeepers and employees. To the person they’ve all got two, three four jobs. That’s just not right.”
The data also shows 86 percent of labor markets in the state had higher unemployment rates. Click Here to see unemployment rates for all cities and towns in Mass.
