Sister: Senator who fell resting comfortably

A neighbor witnessed 52-year-old Maynard fall from a "significant height."

STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — The sister of a Stonington state senator says her brother Andrew Maynard is in serious but stable condition after falling from an outsides staircase at his home early Monday morning.

In a statement released Tuesday by the Senate Democrats, Denise Mahoney said Maynard suffered non-life threatening injuries and is “resting comfortably with family and friends by his side.” Maynard is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Mahoney said her family was thankful for the outpouring of support they’ve received from around Connecticut.

Police said a neighbor witnessed 52-year-old Maynard fall from a “significant height,” landing on a sidewalk, at about 2:39 a.m. on Monday.

Maynard is the co-chairman of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee. Besides Stonington, his district includes Griswold, Groton, North Stonington, Plainfield, Preston, Sterling and Voluntown.
