UMass soccer coach Sam Koch has died

Had coached men's team for 23 seasons

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Sam Koch, Umass Amherst’s men’s soccer coach passed away this weekend, according to Dan Fitzgibbons, a Umass spokesman. Koch had been battling sinus cancer for two years.

Fitzgibbons told 22News Koch was the soccer coach for 23 seasons. He began work at UMass back in 1991.

Less than a year ago, Elaine Sortino lost her battle with breast cancer.  She was the school’s softball coach for more than 30 years.
