Mechanical issue causes a car fire in Palmer

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer was moving slowly Monday night due to a car fire.

State Police Trooper Marc Roy of the Charlton Barracks told 22News, around 8:40 p.m. Monday, a car caught fire at the 66 mile maker on the Mass Pike, Interstate-90 west bound. The right lane was closed while Palmer FD put out the fire.

Trooper Roy said the fire started because of a mechanical issue. The fire was quickly distinguished and no one was injured.

Both State Police and the Palmer Fire Department responded to the fire. Traffic was moving smoothly by 9:10 p.m. Monday.
