WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- A tractor trailer truck caught fire late Wednesday night on Ampad Road in Westfield.
Sgt. Jeffrey Baillargeon of the Westfield Police Department told 22News that the 18 wheeler was carrying paper to Prolamina; a packaging company with a warehouse on that street, when the fire started after 11:00 P.M. Investigators believe that the rear brakes of the truck heated up which ignited the trailer, the paper inside, and eventually spread to the cab of the truck.
The driver, James Parks, of Georgia, made it out okay and told 22News he was shook up, “This is what happens when the truck catch a fire. It don’t take long and I could’ve been asleep. And just let my parents know that I’m still alive.”
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the truck and had everything under control within an hour.
The truck is owned by B & L Transportation and Logistics, a company based in Indiana.
