Neal: We are looking at a “humanitarian crisis”

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP)- 22News talked to Congressman Richard Neal Friday afternoon in the village of Housatonic, in Great Barrington.

He told 22News that what we are looking at right now is a “humanitarian crisis.”

About 50,000 children from Central America have crossed the border into the United States, and right now are being held at detention centers.

Neal said the spoke with Chicopee Mayor Richard Kos, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and Col. Vautrain from Westover.

He said while this is an emergency situation that must be dealt with, he doesn’t think Westover is the best place.

“They have some concerns as you might expect, legitimately so. I think the logistics there, having a lot of knowledge about the housing particularly because I put a lot of money into it, and it’s used. It’s used every weekend,” said Representative Richard Neal, (D) Massachusetts.
