BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WWLP) – Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been detected in mosquitoes in Massachusetts for the first time this year.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the mosquito samples were collected on July 15th in the eastern Mass. town of Bridgewater.
This finding raises the risk level of Bridgewater to moderate. There have been no human cases of EEE so far this year.
EEE is usually spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
