CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee resident hopes his experience will prevent others from becoming victims to phone schemes.
Matt Sliwa of Chicopee told 22News he received a call on Thursday from 413-535-9579. Two men on the line told him they had his brother and threatened to kill the brother if Sliwa hung up the phone.
Sliwa said he panicked when the men named his brother by name.
“It’s shocking, how did these people find out this kind of information about people, and the Internet and what not. It was very convincing to be honest, and I was scared. I was scared for my brother,” said Sliwa.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News more than 20 people have filed complaints about similar types of phone calls in the last 15 days.
If you receive a threatening phone call, do not wire money. No matter what they tell you, hang up, and report the number to local police.
