Recent rainfall brings water supplies above normal

Don't expect any water restrictions anytime soon

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – With this recent rainfall, 22News is working for you with how it has impacted our water supply.

The Quabbin Reservoir supplies water to Chicopee, Wilbraham and parts of South Hadley. Bill Pula with the Department of Conversation and Recreation told 22News they are about one foot above normal and at 97% capacity.

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission supplies water to several other communities in western Massachusetts. They are also operating slightly above average.

Joyce Mulvaney of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission told 22News, “We have a huge reservoir, it’s usually around 80 or 90 percent at this time of year anyway, right now it’s about 95 percent”

Although, we don’t except any water restrictions anytime soon, Mulvaney reminds us to limit our usage during peak hours, 6 to 8 in the morning and evening.
