BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – A playground being built for people of all abilities is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Jessica’s Boundless Playground in Belchertown is on schedule to be built in September. The first step in the next few weeks will be removing this basketball court.
The process is 4 and a-half years in the making.
Jessica’s mom, Vicky Martins-Auffrey, told 22News, “We are planning to build on September 13th and 14th, that weekend. We need 150 volunteers. It’s a community build. It’s basically like a tinker-toys and we’ll put it all together and it should be done in that weekend.”
The playground is being built in honor of Jessica Martins from Belchertown, who passed away when she was 19. She lived with Rett Syndrome and died due to complications from the H1N1 virus in 2009.
