GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A homeowner called 22News complaining about the unkempt condition of homes next door.
Marge Gamage contacted 22News about two abandoned homes she says have put a blight on her neighborhood.
Gamage says these homes at 290 and 292 Deerfield Street in Greenfield have been abandoned for years. Property records confirm the last time the homes were sold was in 2010 and 2008.
Gamage says the overgrown eyesore has also affected her quality of life. Snakes have started appearing in her yard and she’s afraid to go out and mow her own yard.
“I live here. I pay my taxes. Something has to be done. I’m having more problems with mosquitoes than I’ve ever had over the years. There are stray cats running around over there. It’s just unlivable,” said Gamage.
Greenfield Mayor Bill Martin told 22News one of the homes has been condemned and may go up for auction in the spring of 2015.
The other home is privately owned and all the taxes have been paid, so the homeowner is not under any obligation to do anything the property.
