Man arrested for unarmed robbery and assault

Intent to rob attendant on duty at Ken's Parking Lot.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police arrested 32 year-old Miguel Valentin of Springfield for unarmed robbery and two counts of assault at 6:50 P.M. Monday evening.

Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department told 22News that officers Michael Stierle and Brett Staples arrived at Ken’s Parking Lot at 73 Taylor Street for a reported unarmed robbery. Officers were told by the attendant on duty that, before he was about to leave work, a Hispanic man approached the attendant and asked him for a cigarette. The attendant said that he didn’t have any. The Hispanic man told the attendant, “I don’t care what you give me, you’re going to give me something, money? Your wallet? If you don’t give it I will take it from you.”

Valentin attacked the attendant, who dropped a customer’s key in the middle of the fight. Valentin took the key and left. Officers spotted him a short while later in front of Kimball Towers at 140 Chestnut Street and pursued him on foot.

Officer Donnie Denault drove his cruiser near 135 Dwight Street. Valentin approached the cruiser and punched Denault in the face through the open window. Valentin was then tackled by Sgt. Christopher Hitas, where he was placed under arrest and taken into custody.

Valentin is charged of unarmed robbery, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and arrest warrants for rape and indecent assault.
