Man rescued from Deerfield River after fall

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  A 22 year old man from Fitchburg is recovering in the hospital Sunday night after falling about 30 feet into the Deerfield River.

Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock told 22News it happened around 6 o’clock near Stillwater Road on the bank of the Deerfield River.

The man was with some friends when he slipped from a rocky ledge and fell into the river. His friends were able to help him back to shore, but he hurt his head during the fall and was taken by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

He is expected to live.
