SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A worker was overcome by smoke Saturday during an East Springfield Industrial fire at the North Star Pulp and Paper Recycling plant.
Springfield fire department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News, apparently there was a mechanical failure in the hopper where the paper is taken down the conveyor belt.
Three workers were close by but luckily they weren’t hurt. The other worker who inhaled some smoke is said to be okay. Leger confirmed there was a lot of damage thought he’s not certain just how much.
The fire was put out with the use of retardant foam. The recycling operation is located near interstate 291 in East Springfield.
