Police chase starts in Wilbraham, ends in Chicopee

Police still looking for suspect

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are searching for a person that lead them on a chase through three communities early Friday morning.

Wilbraham Police Sgt. Sean Baldwin told 22News that the chase started in Wilbraham around 3:30 a.m. when a town police officer attempted to pull over a pickup truck for a routine traffic stop.

The truck would not stop, and led the officer on a pursuit through which ended up going through Indian Orchard into Chicopee.

The truck went down Robbins Road and smashed through steel poles and a chain link fence, continuing onto private property. The driver ditched the truck in the woods off the side of Robbins Road and ran away.

Wilbraham and Chicopee police chased after the driver on foot into the woods but couldn’t find him, Sgt. Baldwin said. State police were called to help with a police dog to track the driver down, but were unsuccessful.

The pickup truck was towed away from where it was abandoned in the woods. Police are trying to identify the driver and the investigation is ongoing, Sgt. Baldwin said.

Police do not have a description of the suspect at this time.
