Storm causes a tree to fall on a house in Springfield

Fire Dept. arrived to the house quickly

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Severe weather passed through western Massachusetts, Wednesday night, causing a tree to crush the roof of a house on Ambrose Street in Springfield. The tree fell around 9:30 p.m.

22News spoke to the homeowner’s daughter, Vivan Salem, who lives next-door. She said once the tree made contact with the home, water started pouring in.

Salem said the Springfield Fire Department responded quickly, and told her they hope to have the tree removed later Thursday. She says her mother is staying with her for safety.

Another house was damaged by a tree in West Springfield on Virginia Avenue, and multiple cities and towns had power outages; all due to the storm.

The National Weather Service had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for all of western Mass. most of Wednesday night.
