The Moynihan family managed to get out of their Virginia Avenue home safely when a tree crushed the second floor of the house Wednesday night.

Wind gusts, one of which was measured in West Springfield at 52 miles per hour, brought down numerous tree limbs and caused power outages in the area.

West Springfield was not alone when it comes to storm damage, however. Downed trees and power lines were reported in Westfield, Longmeadow, Springfield, Ludlow, and Ware; with a tree falling on top of a house on Ambrose Street in Springfield’s Pine Point neighborhood, and another tree falling on top of a home on Tracy Street in Liberty Heights.
