Hanging wires in Springfield cause a scooter accident

A tree had fallen on a house near the accident

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A few hours after a tree fell on a house on Ambrose Street in Springfield, a man on a scooter crashed in front of the house.

When the tree fell, it took down cable wires that were hanging from one side of Ambrose Street to the other. The rider apparently didn’t see the wires, and was thrown off his bike.

Vivian Salem of Springfield witnessed the crash and said she was in shock. “I was petrified because I didn’t know what to do, because he could have gotten killed. And there’s damage to his scooter but thank god that he’s okay.”

When the man on the scooter crashed, he cut the cable in half, so it is no longer hanging down in the street. He only suffered minor injuries.

The tree fell on the Ambrose St. house around 9:30 p.m. Another house was damaged by a tree in West Springfield on Virginia Avenue, and multiple cities and towns had power outages; all due to the storm.

The National Weather Service had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for all of western Mass. most of Wednesday night.
