WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News is working for you with information on an email scheme where identity thieves pose as Bank of America.
The email comes from a phony Bank of America email account.
The subject reads “Bank of America Alert: Account suspended.”
When you open it, there’s a link that asks you to confirm all of your personal information, including your username, password and social security number.
“Oh it’s convincing, if you see it says Bank of America at first glance you’re going to trust it. For me, someone like myself I’m legally blind, physically disabled, I get a monthly check so if someone was to take all that money out of my account, that’s my housing that’s my electric, that’s my life,” said Michael Sanchez of West Springfield.
Don’t click that link and if you do, don’t provide any of the information it asks for.
If you see this email, best bet: forward it to email@example.com.
Identity thieves use the same scheme pretending to be other well-known banks.
