WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- The need for blood donations goes up during summer months, but the amount of donations tend to decline.
Currently, only about 5% of Americans donate to the American Red Cross, and every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
22News has teamed up with the American Red Cross, Six Flags New England and the Big E for the largest donation drive in western Massachusetts.
The Super Blood Drive is Wednesday at the Eastern states exposition’s Better Living Center from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Donating will take 45 minutes to an hour.
Donors must be at least 17-years old and a minimum of 110 pounds, and generally in good health.
Each presenting blood donor is helping save a life and will also receive a free Six Flags ticket.
You can call 1-800-Red-Cross or visit RedCrossblood.org to make an appointment and help spread the message on social media with #ChooseYourDay.
