Boy, 10, died after swim test at MA pool

Alexander Cora had an undiagnosed heart condition, aunt says

MILFORD, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 10-year-old boy who went into cardiac arrest during a swimming test at a Milford pool has died.

Chief Thomas O’Loughlin says Alexander Cora of Blackstone died Monday night at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. An aunt tells The Milford Daily News that Alex apparently had an undiagnosed heart condition that led to his death.

Alex was visiting his grandmother in Milford on Sunday when the two went to the pool.

O’Loughlin said the boy was under the supervision of a lifeguard for a test to see if he could swim the length of the pool. He went into distress about halfway across and was pulled from the water by the lifeguard.

His aunt called him a “goofball” who loved reading, swimming and playing video games.
