Body found in Deerfield River identified as missing woman

Molly Dowd of Gilbertville, Vt. disappeared on Sunday

CONWAY, Mass. (WWLP) – The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner says that the person whose body was pulled from the Deerfield River Tuesday was a 24 year-old woman from Vermont.

According to Mary Carey of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified the woman as Molly Dowd of Gilbertville, Vt.

Carey says that Dowd disappeared while tubing along the Deerfield River near a dam in Conway on Sunday. Witnesses saw Dowd being sucked into a whirlpool, Carey said.

Rescue crews and dive teams searched for Dowd on Sunday and again on Monday.

Her body was discovered by kayakers near Deerfield Academy early Tuesday morning.
