Registered sex offender accused of child abuse

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A Level 3 sex offender registered in South Hadley is now facing child abuse charges in Ludlow.

Miguel Morales is accused of using hot sauce to discipline his friend’s 2 and 9-year-old children who live in Ludlow.

Ludlow Police Detective Alison Metcalfe told 22News concerned relatives called police, and police have charged Morales with 3 Counts of Assault and Battery on a Child.

Morales is also accused of violating of his probation for a 2010 conviction on child abuse charges. A Hampshire County Superior Court judge ordered Morales held on $10,000 bail.

Morales will answer to probation violation charges in Hampshire County Superior Court in Northampton, and to assault and battery charges in Palmer District Court.

The children’s mother told police she did not know Morales was a registered sex offender.

The children’s names are not being released. The Department of Children and Families has been contacted.

This is the second time in time a month that man has been accused of using hot sauce to discipline a child in Massachusetts. A man in Danvers allegedly put hot sauce in the mouth of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son and then taped it shut.
