Police suspend search for teen in Mass. quarry

Milford police called it a "major search and rescue"

MILFORD, Mass. (AP) — Milford police have suspended their search for a Rhode Island teen who jumped into the waters at a quarry and did not resurface.

Police responded to a call for help Sunday afternoon. The Telegram & Gazette reports that a witness said the unidentified 18-year-old youth landed in the water in a strange way and did not resurface.

Police say the party included three young men and two young women.

Milford police called it a “major search” with divers being lowered at least 30 feet into the water.

They said in a Twitter post Sunday night that the search would resume early Monday.

Police say they try to keep trespassers away from the privately owned quarry.
