More Springfield teens going to college

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Although schools are on summer vacation, high marks came out this weekend for the Springfield school department.

It seems a greater number of recent Springfield high school graduates will be going to college this fall. It’s partly in thanks to a unique Springfield school department program that sends text message reminders to students about what needs to be done before they can attend college. It reminds them about financial aid, tuition bill deadlines and college placement exams.

It’s goal is to prevent summer melt. That’s when recent graduates become so overwhelmed with last minute paperwork, they give up and just forget about attending college.
