Free coffee offered for late night drivers in Mass.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Hurricane Arthur moving up the East Coast on Independence Day forced many people to change their holiday travel plans.

If you plan on driving throughout Friday night, the state Department of Transportation will help you stay awake with free coffee at all 18 service plazas. The service ends at 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

And this holiday weekend, as more people use state highways, drivers are urged to put the phones down and pay attention to their surroundings.

“Everybody’s on phones today, everybody’s on phones,” said Ned Trumbull of West Springfield. “I don’t care if you’re talking on the phone, especially not texting; you can’t text and pay attention.”

When you’re coming back home, you can check MassDOT’s live webcams to monitor delays. Click here for more information.
