Springfield men indicted in deadly accident case

Teen killed after swerving to avoid the two men

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield men have been indicted on manslaughter charges for allegedly causing a deadly accident on I-91 North in Longmeadow this past November.

Police say 32-year-old Jose Nieves Cruz and 43-year-old Rafael Perez Jr. were moving a couch when the cushions fell off.

A Jeep driven by 17-year-old Skyler Anderson-Coughlin of Springfield swerved to avoid the men and cushions, struck a tractor-trailer and burst into flames, killing the teen.

Cruz and Perez will be arraigned on July 9th.
