SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — A 41-year-old Somerville elementary school teacher has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student.
Alexandra Romanos of Stoneham was ordered held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday in district court to multiple counts of aggravated rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child.
Authorities say the alleged assaults took place both on and off the grounds of East Somerville Community School, where Romanos was a fifth-grade teacher. She has been placed on leave.
Police were tipped off to the alleged assaults in late June by the student’s mother, who became aware of inappropriate electronic messages between the two.
Is she makes bail, she has to wear a GPS device.
The suspect could not be reached.
