CHATHAM, Mass. (WWLP/AP) – Forecasters have issued tropical storm warnings for Nantucket Island and parts of Cape Cod in Massachusetts as Hurricane Arthur approaches.
22News Meteorologist Ashley Baylor traveled to Chatham in Cape Cod to monitor the weather conditions and track the very latest on Hurricane Arthur to let you know how it will affect your weekend.
There was heavy traffic heading towards Chatham on the Bourne Bridge in Bourne. However, at the beach in Chatham there is no swimming allowed. Signs are posted and a red flag has been risen due to the strong current.
A forecast map from the National Hurricane Center in Miami indicates that the center of the storm isn’t likely to pass New England until late Friday or early Saturday.
Arthur is expected to grow to a Category 2 storm with winds of 96 mph before it passes over or near the North Carolina coast by early Friday.
On Thursday afternoon, the storm was a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 90 mph (150 kph). Its center was located about 185 miles (300 km) southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
