Agawam coach in court for statutory rape case

Michael Rash accused of having relationship with girl, 15

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An Agawam High School junior varsity volleyball coach charged with statutory rape was in court Thursday morning.

Twenty-four year-old Michael Rash of Westfield is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15 year-old girl. Rash had a pre-trial hearing Thursday in Westfield District Court. He was in the building, but did not show up in the actual courtroom for the brief hearing.

According to court documents obtained by the 22News I-Team, the alleged incidents happened in March and April.

The criminal complaint against Rash states that he and the victim began communicating via Snapchat and through text messages. The two then allegedly began meeting in person late at night.

He is due back in court on July 30.

As a condition of his bail, which was issued during his arraignment in early June, Rash has been ordered to stay away from the victim, and to have no unsupervised contact with children under 16.
