Over 7,000 customers were without power after severe weather

2,000 customers were without power in Berkshire County

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Due to severe weather passing through western Massachusetts Wednesday evening, thousands of residents were without power.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flash Flood Warning had been issued throughout western Mass. WMECo and National Grid power outage maps showed thousands without power from Wednesday afternoon to early Thursday morning.

At 4:00 p.m., when the storm started to pass through most of western Mass., 1,197 in Greenfield, 939 in Great Barrington, and 689 in Stockbridge were without power, and around 5:00 p.m., 1,202 in Northfield were left in the dark.

At 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the WMECo outage map showed a total of 2,754 without power; 1,935 of those customers were in West Springfield. On the National Grid map, 277 customers were without power.

Northfield and West Springfield were the hardest hit as far as power outages are concerned. Most places will have power restored within 3 to 6 hours.
