WENDELL, Mass. (WWLP) – The fears of many residents in the eastern Franklin County town of Wendell will not be realized, as the town’s post office will not be shutting down after all.
Postal Service spokesperson Christine Dugas told 22News that they have no intentions of closing the post office.
Dugas called the situation a misunderstanding, and said that the worst that could happen would be the reduction of the office’s service by a couple of hours each day.
Some residents expressed objection to the 1:00 P.M. timing of a July 8 public meeting to discuss the matter. Dugas said that the Postal Service will try to accommodate them by moving the hearing to 5:00 P.M. that day.
Dugas noted that in many smaller communities, people are passionate about their post offices and their postmasters. This was certainly true in Wendell, where residents rallied around their longtime postmaster, Charlie O’Dowd.
