Two shootings in Springfield; one person injured

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police Officers spoke with witnesses and searched the areas of Orchard St. and Ranney St. as they investigated two separate shootings.

On Orchard Street near Chestnut Middle School, a 26 year-old man from Springfield suffered two gunshot wounds to the leg Tuesday night.

Lt. Trent Hufnagel told 22News that police found no victim when they got to the area, but the victim showed up on his own at Baystate Medical Center. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Multiple shots were fired, and police are hoping witnesses can inform them of what happened Tuesday night. No arrests have yet been made.

Also Tuesday, police investigated reports of shots fired on Ranney Street, which is where the same neighborhood 23-year-old Darrell Jenkins was shot and killed one month ago. Jenkins’ family had called for safer city streets, but once again, neighbors there are dealing with reports of shots fired.

Lt. Hufnagel said that they found shell casings, but no victim at that location.
