CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) On July 4th, Springfield’s skies will light up, celebrating our independence in a grand way here in the Pioneer Valley! Judy Matt, President of the Spirit of Springfield joined us with more.
About the Spirit of Springfield:
Springfield will celebrate Independence Day with patriotic music and pyrotechnics in Riverfront Park. Star Spangled Springfield will begin at 7PM with opening remarks from Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Colonel James Keefe, Wing Commander for the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base, James Lacey, Vice President of Corporate Communications for MassMutual, and Spirit of Springfield President Judith Matt.
Falcetti Music will be the first to strike a chord as three talented youth bands perform. Bands include rockers Delightful Syrup with members from Springfield, Ludlow and Enfield, Diversity with members from East Longmeadow, Wilbraham and Agawam, and Ladies & Gentlemen that is a trio from East Longmeadow.
Dan Kane’s Rising Stars, returning to the July 4th festivities for a 4th year, will be 100 voices strong. The group will feature pint-sized powerhouses along with some seasoned teens. Festively dressed in red, white and blue, they will perform up-lifting and patriotic tunes with large and small groups and some solos.
At 9:30PM, the Memorial Bridge will be the stage for Fireworks by Grucci’s pyrotechnic wizardry. After toiling for more than 250 man-hours, the hard work of the seven pyrotechnicians and support team from the Springfield Department of Public Works will go up in flames. From three flatbed trailers, they will launch more than 150 firing cues with the largest of shells being six inches long.
The fireworks will dance across the sky to music broadcast on Mix 93.1 FM. Song selections include Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” “Armed Service Medley,” “America’s Song” performed by Faith Hill & Company, and “God Bless America” by Springfield’s own Vanessa Ford.
Radio Disney will also be at Riverfront Park with music, games and prizes for the whole family.
