HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – It was 3 years ago this weekend when parishioners last worshiped at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Holyoke.
Since then some 150 churchgoers have been determined to have the Vatican re-open their house of worship.
They met Sunday afternoon at the Cavalier restaurant in Chicopee for the third year observance since the Springfield Diocese closed their church. Parishioners have been at odds with the diocese, concerning the condition of the church.
“Contrary to what the diocese would have people believe, the status of the church is it’s in excellent shape,” said Edward Boyle of the Friends of Mater Dolorosa.
The Friends of Mater Dolorosa, a group of about one hundred fifty, say they’ll continue their efforts for the eventual re-opening of the Mater Dolorosa church.
