Elderly driver, pedestrian accident in CT


MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police in Middletown say a 71-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries after she was hit by an SUV driven by a 76-year-old man.

Police say the accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Main Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Way. Susan Thorpe was walking on Main Street and crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Way when the vehicle hit her as it was turning onto the roadway.

Police say a medical helicopter took the woman to Hartford Hospital for treatment of apparent serious injuries. Police identified the driver as Leonard Palmer, saying he was not injured.

Authorities did not release additional details, including whether Palmer faces charges.

Investigators are looking into the accident. They ask anyone who witnesses or has information about the accident to contact police.
