UMass holds active shooting training

It's the first of four intensive daylong training sessions

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Active shooting training began Saturday at Dickinson Hall on the Amherst Campus of the University of Massachusetts.

It’s the first of four intensive daylong training sessions. UMass Police Chief John Horvath notified 22News, his officers will face simulated violence similar to what’s occurred on several American campuses.

Chief Horvath said the scenarios will be as real as possible right down to the ammunition sounding like real bullets.

UMass began this training back in 2007 following the Virginia Tech shootings.

22News has been invited to observe this training first hand two weeks from now, on Saturday, July 12th.
