CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) – The actors playing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were never in better voice than in the Broadway musical “Jersey Boys”.But “Jersey Boys” lost something in the transition from the stage to the big screen. Fans will still love the music but dramatically, the scenes appear sort of, how should I say, artificial?
With the exception of Christopher Walken as Frankie Valli’s mobster of a sugar daddy, there’s no one in the cast you’ve ever heard of, except If you’ve seen the Broadway musical.
In spite of Director Clint Eastwood’s best efforts, the conflicts that worked so well on stage, here look sort of stagey, but when the guys open their mouths to sing, all is well again.
And while the picture is far from perfect, anyone who grew up Idolizing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons will find their music irresistible.
At least Clint Eastwood showed the courage of his conviction by bringing “jersey Boys’ to the screen in spite of some seemingly Insurmountable problems he couldn’t quite overcome.
I’d hate to be the one who denied Eastwood and his “Jersey Boys” their three stars. Even though dramatically the picture sometime strays off-key.
