Safe driving tips for teens this summer

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Kids are home from school and parents may have some vacation days coming up.

During summer months, we see an increased number of cars on highways and to keep you safe during this vacation season, 22News is working for you with safe driving tips.

Gerry Smith from Agawam Auto School said there are two rules you should always follow: Do not speed and look where you’re going. That means never using your cell phone behind the wheel.

“You’re not going to see everything. Your brain can only handle so many functions at a time, and you can’t see everything you’re supposed to if you’re involved in a conversation like that. You’re not focused on what you should be doing, which is driving,” Gerry Smith of Agawam Auto School told 22News.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also reminds you to never drink and drive and always wear your seatbelts.
