Springfield to start strict recycling rules

Offenders get two warnings, and then face $50 fines

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The city of Springfield is cracking down on what you put in your recycling bin.

Starting July 1st, the department of public works will begin compliance checks of recycling barrels around the city.

DPW director Chris Cignoli said the department noticed a slight increase in the number of people recycling non-recyclable items. The department wants to address the issue before it becomes a problem.

Offenders get two warnings, and then face $50 fines.
