Robbery at bank in Palmer, schools put on lockdown

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Schools were temporarily put on lockdown in the town of Palmer Wednesday afternoon as police investigated the robbery of a bank on Route 20.

Police Chief Robert Frydryk notified 22News that around 12:45, a man entered the Country Bank at 1485 North Main Street, and handed the teller a note indicating he had a gun and wanted money.

Following the robbery, all of the schools in the town were put on lockdown for a short time as a precaution. An automated message about the lockdown was sent out to parents by the Superintendent’s Office.

The suspect is described as a “stocky” white man in his 40′s. He has a close-cropped beard and weighs about 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap with a white insignia and a “military ‘scrambled eggs insignia’ on the bill.” He was also wearing a blue and white plaid dress shirt, blue short pants, white socks, and white sneakers.
