Man defrauded FEMA after June 1 tornado

Robbie Rossi falsely claimed to be living on tornado-damaged street, prosecutors say

HARTFORD, Conn. (WWLP) – A former Massachusetts resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to defrauding FEMA after the June 1, 2011 tornado.

According to a news release sent to 22News by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 42 year-old Robbie Rossi of Enfield received more than $12,000 in disaster relief benefits by using false documentation that said he lived on New Bridge Street in West Springfield; an area that sustained heavy damage from the tornado.

In front of a judge in Hartford, Rossi pleaded guilty to a single count of mail fraud arising from a single scheme. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced September 18th.

Rossi has also agreed to pay nearly $13,000 in restitution.
