SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Knowing your status when it comes to HIV, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted diseases makes a big difference in your health, and the health of other people.
With that in mind, people from the New North Citizens Council were in Springfield’s Mason Square neighborhood Wednesday, testing people for a variety of conditions.
As part of HIV testing week, the group is taking an active role in the testing of people who might otherwise not be tested.
Eric Anderson lives in the Old Hill neighborhood of Springfield. He took advantage the HIV and hepatitis testing, as he does each year.
“I feel everyone should get involved, everybody should come get tested. What do you lose, you know?” Anderson said.
“This is a life or death situation, you have to be concerned about your health.”
The testing was part of a health fair that the NNCC put together. The same group will be at the Health and Recovery Center on Main Street in the North End on Thursday.
