Former Mass. pediatrician charged with distributing child porn

BOSTON (WHDH) – A semi-retired pediatrician was arrested Tuesday, accused of collecting child pornography.

Federal agents raided 64-year-old Daniel O’Hern’s house in Mashpee and took some of his belongings.

“I just saw all these cop cars, a van and people carrying boxes out to the van. I was like ‘hey what’s going on?’ and they kind of looked at me and turned back around,” Zyre Austin, a neighbor, said.

O’Hern was arraigned on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Neighbors say they have known him from years and he seemed fine, but there was some concern when he first moved in.

“I don’t know how to explain my feelings because I feel like I have been deceived by him because there have been a few complaints about him when he first moved in and I always defended him because I knew his family background,” Mary Oullet said.

O’Hern, now semi-retired, practiced in Virginia and New York. In 2011 he wrote a pediatric parenting book.

“I never saw him touch children and there are plenty of them in here. All he ever does is walk his dog,” Oullet said.

If convicted O’Hern would face a minimum of five years and a maximum of 30 years.
