PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KARK) Police activity ramped up late Tuesday night as the search for escaped Arkansas murderer Timothy Buffington ended its fourth day.
A tipster told authorities they may have seen Buffington in a field near the Jefferson-Grant County line. Buffington has been on the loose since Saturday night, when he was able to get away from a work detail at the Randall L. Williams Correctional Facility in Pine Bluff.
As the search continues, new details are emerging into how Buffington got away. His work as a trustee took him across the street to a residential neighborhood where top prison officials live. There are no fences there, and Buffington seized the opportunity to get away.
The home where Buffington kicked down a safe room door and stole a shotgun and ammo belongs to Grant Harris, deputy director for the Arkansas Department of Correction.
Prison officials Say the voice on a 911 tape speaking about a terrifying encounter with Buffington was Harris’ daughter, who managed to escape.
