SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A call about a suicidal man caused Springfield firefighters to search a city pond for about an hour and a half early Thursday morning, but no one was found.
Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that the police department called firefighters to Loon Pond around 1:03 A.M., after a man made a call saying that he was going to kill himself.
Leger says that along the shore of the pond, firefighters found a campfire burning, as well as a tackle box with an ID on top of it. A line was drawn into the sand leading to the pond.
Firefighters searched on the water for about 90 minutes, but did not find anyone, and ultimately cancelled their search.
Leger said that they will return to the pond Tuesday if requested by police.
